Position Summary: 

The Farmers Market Assistant supports the daily operations of the Quapaw Nation Farmers Market by assisting the Farmers Market–Food Hub Manager in ensuring efficient and effective market activities. This role is responsible for coordinating vendor relations, supporting sales operations, delivering high-quality customer service, and maintaining accurate inventory and administrative records. The position also contributes to marketing initiatives to promote market products and increase community engagement. The ideal candidate is organized, customer-focused, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while supporting the overall success of the market.

 

Essential Job Functions: 

  •     
  • Maintain inventory across multiple vendors to ensure product availability and accuracy.
  •    
  • Maintain accurate meat inventory and coordinates marketing efforts to support retail and wholesale operations for the Quapaw Nation, ensuring product quality, availability, and compliance with established standards.
  •    
  • Oversee merchandise storage and stock rotation to minimize spoilage and product loss.
  •    
  • Ensure all products are accurately priced, tagged, and labeled.
  •    
  • Maintain fully stocked shelves and ensure displays are clean, organized, and visually appealing.
  •    
  • Administer and maintain records for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), and market transactions.
  •    
  • Track and record market metrics and operational data.
  •    
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, local farmers, and community members.
  •    
  • Complete and maintain daily operational records, including market reports and cash drawer reconciliations for the Quapaw Farmers Market, Mercantile, and Food Hub.
  •    
  • Maintain flexibility to work irregular hours as needed, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  •    
  • Enforce farmers market rules and policies in a professional and respectful manner.
  •    
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
  •    
  • Coordinate, organize, and oversee all aspects of the farmers market program.
  •    
  • Basic knowledge of gardening practices, including planting, harvesting, seed saving and food preservation techniques.
  •    
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards, including those set forth by the Ottawa County Health Department, Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
  •    
  • Manage and update social media platforms and website content to promote market activities.
  •    
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming market environment.
  •    
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Specifications: 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  •     
  • Proficiency in computer systems and spreadsheet applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams.
  •    
  • Ability to manage vendor applications, communications, scheduling, farm inspections, and reporting processes.
  •    
  • Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations and analyze figures and amounts.
  •    
  • Must successfully pass a tribal background investigation and drug screening.
  •    
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing and qualify under the Quapaw Nation Motor Vehicle Policy.

 

Experience: 

  •     
  • 1–2 years of experience in business and/or marketing within agricultural science, horticultural science, or a related field is preferred. 

 

Education: 

  •     
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

 

Physical Abilities: 

  •     
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform tasks that require reaching above shoulder level. 
  •    
  • Ability to push, pull, squat, kneel, bend, and safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds. 
  •    
  • Visual acuity sufficient to perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  •    
  • Ability to travel occasionally for meetings, training, seminars, or professional development opportunities.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions, including heat, rain, cold, etc.
  •    
  • The position may also involve infrequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat.
  •    
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may reach extremes where hearing protection is required.
