Position Summary: 

Under the general direction of the Facilities Supervisor, employee will perform maintenance duties involving paraprofessional maintenance or craft skills to keep machines, mechanical equipment and/or the structure of the establishment in repair.  Duties may involve pipe fitting, insulating, welding, machining, carpentry, repairing electrical or mechanical equipment, installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment, grounds maintenance and repairing buildings, floors, or stairs. Will perform other tasks as assigned.


Essential Job Functions: 

Identifies and corrects building and equipment problems by performing carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and HVAC work to maintain tribal facilities and equipment in safe condition, prevent degradation of tribal property and systems to prevent failures that would cause reduction in service

Maintain and repair exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R), cement work, painting, yard and tree services, and other related trades.

Maintain and repair equipment, machines, or instruments - electrical, industrial, transportation, engines, etc., Work includes, but is not limited to, disassembling, making minor repairs, cleaning, oiling, and greasing equipment and replacing worn gears, gaskets, belts, brushes, and roller bearings. 

Repair minor problems and operate one or more utility systems (e.g., air conditioning, heating, water, wastewater, etc.)

Use, maintain, adjust, sharpen, and repair a variety of tools, safety equipment and portable power equipment such as pipe wrenches, acetylene cutting torches, pneumatic hammers, handheld electric power tools, grinders, drills, cutters, chisels, picks, axes, shovels, mowing equipment, etc.

Run, maneuver, navigate or drive vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, mowers, tractors, etc.

All other duties as assigned.

 

Non-essential Job Functions: 

  • Assist with preparation of monthly and annual reports, record maintenance and repair work performed and the cost of the work.
  • Clean work area and equipment.
  • May attend professional meetings, pertinent workshops and serve on organization-wide and professional committees.


Job Specifications: 

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Limited knowledge/skill in a variety of crafts or trades as they relate to the repair of any and all of the above-mentioned equipment, but not a predominant knowledge of any one trade or craft.
  • Knowledge of user requirements and the locations and functions of all machines, tools and equipment in the system(s) and the maintenance and repair procedures and specifications.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote safe operations for the protection of people, property and the institution.
  • Possess tact and courtesy, as well as sound judgment.
  • Have a strong ability to work in a team environment.
  • Display attention to detail.


Experience / Education:

  • Three years (but not less than one year) of related experience or work in maintenance, performing maintenance duties and working with tools and equipment as described above, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; specialized training in a related/applicable field is preferred.

Physical Abilities:

  • The incumbent must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, as well as regularly reach above the shoulders, bend, squat; must be able to push, pull, and lift up to and including 80 pounds without experiencing physical discomfort or pain. Possess manual/finger dexterity – be able to quickly move hand, arm, or two hands and to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. Possess multilimbed coordination while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion. Excellent eyesight – with or without vision correction – is mandatory. Must be able to travel occasionally.

  • Working Conditions: 
  • The work may be performed inside and/or outside of office or shop buildings, in conditions involving excessive heat, cold, or noise level. The respective PPE is provided.
