Position Summary

The Chamber of Commerce President is the chief executive officer of the organization, responsible for advancing its mission to promote economic growth, foster business development, and enhance the community’s quality of life. This position serves as the primary spokesperson and visionary leader for the Chamber, collaborating with business, government, and community


Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Vision

  • Develop and implement strategic plans in alignment with the Chamber’s mission and goals.
  • Act as the primary advocate and representative of the Chamber to the public, media, government entities, and other organizations.
  • Inspire and lead the Chamber team to achieve excellence in program delivery and member engagement.

 

Business Development

  • Collaborate with local businesses, government officials, and economic development organizations to attract, retain, and expand business in the area.
  • Advocate for policies and initiatives that promote a favorable business environment.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for partnerships and funding to support business growth.

 

Membership Development

  • Oversee initiatives to recruit, retain, and engage Chamber members.
  • Ensure that member needs are met through valuable programs, networking opportunities, and services.
  • Build strong relationships with current and prospective members to enhance membership value.

 

Community Engagement

  • Promote a vibrant and thriving community through events, programs, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with educational institutions, nonprofits, and civic organizations to address community challenges.
  • Serve as a resource for businesses to foster a sense of connection and community pride.

 

Financial Oversight

  • Develop and manage the Chamber’s annual budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
  • Identify revenue opportunities through memberships, sponsorships, grants, and events.
  • Provide regular financial reports to the Board of Directors.

Board Relations

  • Serve as a liaison between the Chamber staff and the Board of Directors, ensuring clear communication and alignment of goals.
  • Provide strategic recommendations and updates to the Board on organizational activities and community developments.
  • Support the Board in governance and policy development.

 

Personnel

  • The CEO supervises chamber staff and has the responsibility of recruiting, hiring and terminations.
  • The CEO directs the staff to achieve the goals set forth through board direction and short/long-term strategic plans.

 

Requirements

  • Proven experience in business management with a strong track record of leading an organization or business department
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning and executing growth initiatives
  • Strong background in financial management including budgeting, financial analysis, and resource optimization
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams, build consensus, and drive change
  • Business development knowledge and skills to identify opportunities for expansion and partnership building
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively articulate vision, strategy, and operational goals
