Position Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of skilled duties involving the installation, servicing, repair and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, streets, storm drains and related facilities; and performs related work as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction, installation, repair and maintenance of water distribution system mains, service lines and related facilities and equipment.
- Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction, installation, repair and maintenance of wastewater collection system mains, lines and related facilities and equipment.
- Employee will install, tests, inspect, replace, maintain, and repair water meters.
- Tests, disassembles, and cleans water meters.
- Repair or replace worn or defective parts in meters.
- Raise and lower meter box heights.
- Clean and reset meter boxes.
- Responds to complaints of leaking, broken or malfunctioning meters.
- Performs flow tests and pressure checks on water meters.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment in the adjusting, repairing and maintaining of small and large water meters, including acetylene/oxygen torches, power wrenches and air compressors.
- Locates buried valves.
- Inspects and tests valves.
- Determines water flow direction and performs required main shutdown procedures.
- Operates trucks, trenchers, skip loaders, backhoes, compressors, tapping machines, and a wide variety of other motorized equipment.
- Operates and uses a wide variety of hand and power tools.
- Performs grounds keeping and weed abatement duties at tribal -owned sites and facilities.
- Cleans and maintains tools and equipment used in the field and shops.
- Fabricates tools and equipment used in the field and shop.
- Documents work and required water tests performed.
- Works from land plats, maps, valve books, sketches, blueprints and work orders.
- Responds to customer complaints.
- Responds to questions and complaints from the public regarding repair work and main shutdowns.
- Performs after-hours emergency work and on-call duties as needed.
Non-essential Job Functions:
May attend professional meetings, pertinent workshops, and serve on organization-wide and professional committees.
Job Specifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have a valid driver’s license and qualify under the Quapaw Nation’s insurance policy.
- Limited knowledge/skill in a variety of crafts or trades as they relate to the repair of any and all of the above-mentioned equipment, but not a predominant knowledge of any one trade or craft.
- Ability to start, stop, and regulate any utility or utilities for optimum efficiency and troubleshoot, maintain, and repair them.
- Knowledge of user requirements and the locations and functions of all machines, tools, and equipment in the system(s) and the maintenance and repair procedures and specifications.
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote safe operations for the protection of people, property, and the institution.
- Possess tact and courtesy, as well as sound judgment; have strong ability to work in a team environment; display attention to detail.
- Education & Experience:
- Two years (but not less than one year) of related experience or work in maintenance, performing maintenance duties and working with tools and equipment as described above, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- High-school diploma or equivalent is required; specialized training in a related/applicable field is preferred.
Physical Abilities:
The incumbent must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, as well as regularly reach above the shoulders, bend, squat; must be able to push, pull, and lift up to and including 80 pounds without experiencing physical discomfort or pain. Possess manual/finger dexterity – be able to quickly move hand, arm, or two hands and to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. Possess multi-limb coordination while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion. Excellent eyesight – with or without vision correction – is mandatory. Must be able to travel occasionally.
- Working Conditions:
- The work may be performed inside and/or outside of office or shop buildings, in conditions involving excessive heat, cold, or noise level. The respective PPE is provided.
